Bio (English)

Ewa Wójtowicz is  new media arts researcher and art critic with a background in fine arts. In 2006 she obtained her PhD in Cognitive Sciences and Social Communication, with dissertation Net Art as an Interactive Art, in Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (MA in Artistic Education with a thesis on mail art, and in Printmaking) in 2000.

Author of a monography Sztuka w kulturze postmedialnej (Art in Post-media Culture) (2016) and the first Polish book about Internet art and digital culture Net art (2008). More that 30 articles contributed to Polish and European, both hardcopy and online magazines, including: „Artpunkt”, „Art Inquiry”, „This Century’s Review”, „Fragile”, „Ha!Art”, „Kultura Popularna”, „Kultura Współczesna”, „Lampa”, „Magazyn O.pl”, „Metaverse Creativity”, „Opcje”, „Panoptikum”, „Przegląd Kulturoznawczy” and „Zeszyty Artystyczne”.

Ewa Wójtowicz  took part in numerous conferences, including the Congress of Polish Culture in Krakow (2009), Rewire – Media Art Histories in Liverpool (2011) and XLVII AICA Congress in Seoul (2014). Member of AICA (Polish Section), Polish Aesthetics Society  and The Polish Society of Cultural Studies. Freelance critic for Magazyn O.pl. Deputy editor-in-chief of „Zeszyty Artystyczn”. Co-curator of an exhibition in Arsenal Gallery in Poznan, within Mediations Biennial (2008). In 2006 took part in a Polish-British art project 151206.org.

Ewa Wójtowicz is assistant professor in the Art Studies Department within The Faculty of Artistic Education at the University of Arts in Poznań,  teaching various courses and lectures, including: Art History, Contemporary Art, New Media Arts. She works as a tutor for  Polish and foreign students. In 2010 awarded with Medal of the National Education Commisssion. Her research interests include: post-media art, post-Internet art, net art, digital culture, remix, appropriation art, alternative approaches in art.
